
Viet Nam and Sri Lanka expand cooperation in strategic technologies
On 8 May, 2026, Minister of Science and Technology of Viet Nam Vu Hai Quan held talks with Minister of Science and Technology of Sri Lanka Chrishantha Abeysena. They also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on science and technology cooperation, creating a legal framework to further promote collaboration between the two countries.
In the presence of senior leaders of the two countries, Minister of Science and Technology of Viet Nam Vu Hai Quan and Minister of Science and Technology of Sri Lanka Chrishantha Abeysena exchanged the Memorandum of Understanding on science and technology cooperation.
Minister Vu Hai Quan proposed four priority directions:
- First, the two countries should carry out joint R&D projects in biotechnology, climate-resilient smart agriculture, electronics and automation.
- Second, cooperation should be strengthened in high-quality human resource training through closer links between education and research institutions of the two countries.
- Third, both sides should promote cooperation in digital industries, data sharing and support for technology enterprises seeking to expand into each other's markets.
- Fourth, cooperation should be expanded in satellite technology, 6G frequency management, UAVs and traceability standards for agricultural products.
Minister Chrishantha Abeysena highly valued the experience of Viet Nam in science and technology development and digital transformation. He noted that science and technology cooperation would open up new space for bilateral relations, particularly in digital technologies, innovation and technology applications for socio-economic development./.
